Epochs 2023–2024 is the first installment in a lifelong archive of sound and memory. Spanning nearly six hours, it gathers demos, sketches, voice memos, jam sessions, and solitary experiments made between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Some are fleeting ideas, mumbled into being; others are evenings of instrumentation in conversation. Together, they trace and create the shape of a process, the sound of ideas as they are born.
These recordings are tied to places as much as some are to people. During this period I was studying film and graphic design in Cape Town, while Johannesburg — my home city — became a site of return. Some pieces were recorded by the coast, others back at home, or in the apartments and temporary spaces where friends and I shared co-ordinates. Many of these moments were simply ways of spending time together, where hanging out naturally became music-making. In this sense, the project holds not just sound but the atmosphere of these relationships.
Epochs 2023–2024 is not a collection of finished songs but a sonic autobiography in motion. Preserving these recordings means valuing them not as drafts awaiting completion but as documents of becoming. This edition locks them into time, giving them a place to live as both archive and artwork — fragments of a larger journey that will continue to unfold.
This is only the beginning.
